Here is the General Category Dump that was used on http://lordlita.com/directory/ I had such a hard time finding a category dump with which to start from I wanted to help other people in the same predicament by distributing this and giving some basic instructions on how to get it to work.
There are 3500+ categories.
Installation Instructions.
First, Extract the zip file onto your computer.
Second, Change the user_database to your own.
Third, Log in to your hosting account and access your mysql database by using a program such as phpmysql.
Fourth, Import the sql file. If you get this error:

#1050 - Table ‘PLD_CATEGORY’ already exists
then Delete the Table ‘PLD_CATEGORY , then it will be automatically created by the import. This will/may erase any categories that are already in place.
